Sustainably Sourced Leather

Discover our edit of sustainably sourced leather goods. Buying second hand leather is considered the most ethical and sustainable way to purchase leather goods. Why? It keeps leather goods out of landfills and extends their life cycle. It also requires no new resources, like new hides, water and resources required to produce leather goods.

Why we love leather

Good leather is an investment - one we believe is worth making. It starts firm, softens with use, and develops a beautiful patina over time. There's a reason why everyone is snagging their grandpa's leather trench.

Quality Notes

Quality leather starts with full-grain or top-grain hides, where the natural fiber structure remains intact for maximum strength and longevity. Full-grain leather retains its original surface, showing subtle variations that signal authenticity and allow a rich patina to develop. Fiber density—how tightly the collagen fibers are packed—determines durability and how well the leather resists stretching over time. Vegetable tanning, common in sustainably sourced leather, uses plant-based tannins that produce a firmer, more breathable hide that ages more naturally than chrome-tanned versions. Lower-grade leather is often corrected, split, or heavily coated, masking imperfections but reducing durability and aging potential. Secondhand high-quality leather performs exceptionally well because premium hides become more supple, more stable, and more structurally consistent as they’re worn in.

Care Tips
  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth when needed
  • Condition every few months to prevent drying
  • Keep away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight
  • Let wet leather air dry naturally
  • Store in a breathable bag, not plastic
